Rename Active Directory Child Domain running Windows Server 2019
1. Prepare
- DC31 : Domain Controller(Yi.vn - Root Domain) - IP 10.0.0.31 | DC32 : Domain Controller(HQ.Yi.vn - Child Domain) - IP 10.0.2.32
- DC33 : Domain Controller(Site01.Yi.vn - Child Domain) - IP 10.0.3.33 | DC34 : Domain Controller(Site02.Yi.vn - Child Domain) - IP 10.0.4.34
- WIN101 : Domain Member(HQ.Yi.vn - Child Domain) - IP 10.0.2.101 | DC254 : Routing Server IP 10.0.0.254, 10.0.2.254, 10.0.3.254, 10.0.4.254
2. Step by step : Rename HQ.Yi.vn to Site00.Yi.vn
- WIN101 : Check Domain : HQ.Yi.vn
- DC31 : Add HQ\Administrator to "Enterprise Admins" group --- waiting for sync...
- DC32 : Rename HQ.Yi.vn to Site00.Yi.vn
+ Logon using HQ\Administrator
+ Create a Zone DNS Named Site00.Yi.vn : + Server Manager - Tools - DNS - DC32 - Right-Click "ForWard Lookup Zones" - New Zone... - Zone Type : Primary zone, Zone Name : Site00.Yi.vn - Finish
+ Start - Right-Click cmd - Run as administrator, Type : + rendom /list # An xml file created lists the current domain information
+ Go to C:\Users\administrator to check file Domainlist.xml
+ Righ-click Domainlist.xml - Open with - Notepad - Replace HQ.Yi.vn to Site00.Yi.vn
+ At cmd, type :
+ rendom /showforest # verify the new configuration
+ rendom /upload # upload the modified xml to our domain controllers
+ rendom /prepare # prepare for domain rename by verifying authorization
+ rendom /execute # Execute the uploaded script on all domain controllers to actually perform the domain rename operation
=== All Domain Controller will restart === Waiting for DCs sync...
+ Logon using Site00\Administrator --- Restart server
+ Check "Group Policy Managememt" : Server Manager - Tools - Group Policy Management === Fail
+ Start - Right-Click cmd - Run as administrator, Type :
+ gpfixup /olddns:HQ.Yi.vn /newdns:Site00.Yi.vn + gpfixup /oldnb:HQ /newnb:Site00 # Update DNS
+ netdom computername DC32.HQ.Yi.vn /add:DC32.Site00.Yi.vn + netdom computername DC32.HQ.Yi.vn /makeprimary:DC32.Site00.Yi.vn # Change Computer name === Restart
+ Start - Right-Click cmd - Run as administrator, Type : rendom /clean # clean up
- WIN101 : Logon and check Domain : Site00.Yi.vn === OK
