Want to know a secret to managing a “difficult dementia behavior” that happens repeatedly?
.
Instead of responding to the behavior AFTER it occurs, try responding to the behavior BEFORE it happens.
.
Look for clues the person is becoming agitated. Look for triggers in the environment. Look for patterns in the timing of when it happens.
.
Ask yourself, what can you engage the person with dementia in BEFORE that behavior happens? What is something they would enjoy? Try getting them involved in that as a way to prevent the behavior from happening at all.
.
