What is success? See, most people confuse the true meaning of success. To most people, success is often equated to wealth, or having a dream job, or earning a six or seven figure yearly income. Or, maybe some people think that success means becoming a millionaire, or you are a millionaire, that means you're successful. However, that's not always the case. The meaning of success is quite simple if you sit back and think about this for a moment. Forget about whatever anyone's ever told you in your life, or what you thought success actually means, and see if you can pick up on what I'm about to say here. In short, success means that you are hanging on, and not letting go when others would let go. Yeah, you heard me right. Success means that you are hanging on, and not letting go when others would let go. See, a famous quote that really hits home, close to me is by Thomas Edison. He has so many great quotes, but this is one great one here. "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is to always try one more time." You see how he awarded that? It's very powerful. Very, very powerful. Many of our life's failures are people who don't realize how close they were to success. They were close to the finish line and then they just gave up, but they didn't realize it. See, people don't stop because they can't. That's what a lot of people don't understand. People do not stop doing something, whatever it may be, because they can't. They stop because they decide to stop. That is a choice. A choice, not dedication, not persistence, and that's not going to be success. Think of this metaphor. If you were at the bottom of a mountain and do not focus on how high, or don't focus on lookin' at the top of the mountain, you're just hiking and going up the mountain. You're gonna be much more likely to get to the top of the mountain and stand on that mountain. But if you were to be at the bottom of the mountain and stare up at it and make yourself feel intimidated, lazy, whatever it may be, and that's the only thing you're doing is focusing on the top of the mountain, more than likely, you're probably gonna get halfway up there and give up, 'cause that's a choice. You decided to stop. Not saying all, but many in that metaphor. So I'll be honest. I've had more failures in life than I can actually count, and there's nothing wrong with that actually. And you'll know why here in a moment, and I'll explain that to you in detail. During some of those past failures of mine, I felt like a loser. Yeah, a loser. And each and every time I failed, I constantly, and I mean constantly, searched for something or someone to blame for my failures. I wasted so much time looking for an excuse to get some type of self validation that my failure was not my fault. But, you know what? At the end of the day, I realized looking for someone to blame, or looking for an excuse really was my way of avoiding the truth. And it's just not my way. Most of us do this and when we fail, and it's natural to do that. So the truth that I failed, plain and simple. I was aborting the truth that I failed. Who likes the fail? Nobody likes to fail. So yeah, I felt like giving up, or I was unsure of what I should do next. I've had many times where I've had to pick myself up, up off the floor, literally just break down in tears for different failures in my life, and I've had my fair share of them. Pick myself up, and look at myself in the mirror. Just tears going down my face. And this has happened so many times over the past 30 some plus years. And when I'm looking at myself in the mirror, I try to think what I should do next, or if I should even try again. Like in my case, I'm pretty much a serial entrepreneur, always was. I'm fortunate enough now where I enjoy helping people and giving back. But I've had one or two success and 99 failures.
