ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Ashevilles NAACP Branch President predicted the outcome in Ferguson, hours before the District Attorney released the news. John Hayes said he wasnt surprised the grand jury didnt indict Officer Wilson.
It still hurts, said Hayes. Even though I believed they would not indict Officer Wilson. There's no value put on a person of color.
Hayes believes the district attorney trying the case, intentionally introduced testimony alleging Michael Brown had stolen a box of cigars. Hayes said those allegations planted a seed in juror's minds that Michael Brown was not an innocent victim.
Hayes predicted violence in the streets after the news broke. He also said he felt officials in charge of releasing the news planned to release it after dark to incite violence in the evening rather in the daytime, when officers would be better able to see and control violence.
