Marta Abreu (433) was known for its dumpy standard gauge Baldwin 0-4-0F fireless loco and a fine Spanish colonial style mill office building. After the visit to Marta Abreu there is a shot of a Russian M62-K diesel loco on a FCC passenger train.
Espartaco (413) was one of several 2’6” gauge mill lines in Cuba. They used a collection of 2-8-0 Baldwins. Despite being narrow gauge the locos worked very hard and always put on a good show with plenty of sharp exhaust sound. Espartaco also had a couple of NG 0-4-0F fireless locos, the video shows their Baldwin fireless on shunting duties.
The video ends with a selection of public transport in Ciego de Avila. The unusual mix of transport including horse carriages was the result of the US embargo restricting the import of up-to-date vehicles Outside the FCC station there was a row of stalls selling delicious pizza cooked by the roadside in small ovens. They were much better than the ‘damp cardboard’ variety that is usually available in the UK.
