"Approaching people with authenticity and genuineness, giving them the space to explore the issues they're facing inside without jumping to quick answers, solutions, or advice is important in the counselling process,” notes Dr. Dadson ,” who tailors a therapy to the individual person’s needs.
Dr. Dadson incorporates a variety of modalities, depending on what makes the most sense for a particular client. The most common issues that Doctor Michael Dadson encounters in counselling are anxiety and depression, relationship issues, couples / marriage issues, parent child relationships, and PTSD.
"Research has shown that most of the change that occurs from any form of counselling is a direct result of the value and quality of the therapeutic relationship. That relationship is more important than any intervention that's used, and key in the ability to develop a working relationship with another person and explore what the issues are, from one individual to another," Dr. Dadson states.
"Creating that therapeutic relationship is like creating a cocoon, from which they can form themselves and understand themselves from the inside. When an individual is ready to experience that transformation at their own pace, they are ready to make their way out of a cocoon and grow to become the more authentic and genuine version of themselves which they were meant to be," says Mike Dadson.
There are a variety of therapies used in counselling. They may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), emotionally focused therapy (EFT0, process-oriented therapy, sensory and motor therapy, humanistic therapy, mentalization-based treatment (MBT) or observed experiential integration (OEI), Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Self-determination theory (SDT), Trauma focused therapy, and neurotherapy.
