Burning of Magnesium Ribbon.
Let's start the experiment.
Bring a small piece of magnesium ribbon.
Hold the ribbon with a pair of tongs.
Start the burner.
Hold the tip of the ribbon next to the flame of the burner.
The ribbon burns with a bright white light.
Intense heat is also produced in this reaction.
Here, when magnesium burns, it reacts with the oxygen found in air to form a powdery ash called magnesium oxide.
Chemical equation: Magnesium plus Oxygen gives Magnesium oxide.
Safety instructions:
Wear goggles while performing this experiment.
Children should not be allowed to do this experiment.
Do not look directly at the bright white light.
