South Korean defense authorities on Friday approved a plan to reduce Indonesia's contribution to the KF-21 Boramae joint fighter jet development project to 600 billion won (440 million USD) from an initial amount of 1.6 trillion won.
The Korean Defense Project Promotion Committee supported the plan amid concerns over Jakarta's commitment to develop an advanced supersonic fighter jet by 2026 due to repeated delays in payment obligations.
Indonesia initially agreed to pay around 20% of the 8.1 trillion won program launched in 2015. Under the agreement at that time Indonesia would receive technology transfer fees and one prototype model among other conditions.
South Korean government and Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (KAI), the KF-21 manufacturer, agreed to bear the remaining costs of 60 percent and 20 percent respectively.
