Use HDR Mode to improve the quality of your drone shots. Let's dive into this, and take a look at the 5 Reasons why I love the DJI Mavic Air 2/2S.

Beginner Guide to HDR Mode on the Mavic Air 2/2S. With good lighting, I’m shooting in HDR Mode, 4K Video at 24 FPS. If you’re unfamiliar with HDR, it stands for High Dynamic Range and it's one of the most powerful components of this drone.
Some of the best drone shots you’ve seen out there incorporate High Dynamic Range to bring the deepest shadows out of an image without over-exposing the bright areas. This mode is best used when there is a wide range of brightness in an image allowing your drone to automatically boost the shadows and lower the highlights at the same time.
Let’s talk about when to use it: The mode performs extremely well in contrasting scenes, where some parts of the shot are dark, and others are completely bright. This typically happens when you’re shooting directly into the sun and it’s at eye level just above the horizon. Lighting can also be difficult when the sun isn’t bright enough to light your entire scene, but the clouds it’s hiding behind are extremely bright in comparison to the rest of your image.
Now let’s take a look at when you shouldn’t use it: As I mentioned earlier, HDR Mode is a completely automatic mode meaning when you turn it on you have no means of adjusting the settings. Sometimes this mode will find darker spots of your image and try to lighten them which just results in overexposed parts of your shot - meaning the whites are a little too white and you can’t quite make out the object. That brings me to my next finding, which is that HDR Mode typically exposes at the maximum limit or brightness - so keep that in mind when you’re shooting.
In my opinion, the best time of day to shoot is right around Golden Hour when the sun is in a position to give off a nice glow but is still high enough to light up the entire scene. These contrasting differences in lighting will do great with HDR mode because you’ll want to capture the dark areas of your foreground, and the bright areas of your backdrop as the sun gives off a nice burst of light peeking from over the horizon. Meaning, you’ll be able to capture the best of both worlds.
