External hard drives can be extremely useful as an extra storage for your files, but they can also be very vulnerable, when it comes to physical impacts, such as dropping them on the ground, or bumping into other things in your backpack.

Unlike SSDs (solid state drives), which don’t have moving parts inside, and therefore can withstand harder impacts, HDDs (hard disk drives) consist of a disk, which spins at a very high speed, and a read/write head, which moves above the disk. Even the smallest impact can cause the head to scratch the disk, and by this, making it unusable.

This is why any external hard drive needs to have some kind of protection against damage. This rubber protective case serves this function. It is made of black rubber (or silicone) and makes the HDD shockproof and dropproof. Just like a smartphone case, the rubber guard absorbs the shock from the impact and provides extra protection for the hard disk.

The rubber protector can be easily applied and removed from the portable hard disk. And, in case someone wonders, the rubber doesn’t smell bad.
