ISLAMABAD: At least 30 people have been injured in the wake of a clash at a Islamabad university, police sources told Geo News.
The incident took place at Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, when two groups of students clashed with each other, police sources said.
The students pelted rocks on each other, while there have also been reports of an exchange of fire between the two sides.
A heavy contingent of police reached the campus after being informed of the unrest. Police fired tear-gas shells to disperse raged students.
Authorities also called in Rangers to control the situation.
The injured students were shifted to a hospital. A few of them were also said to have received gunshot wounds.
Police also arrested a few students involved in the clash from the scene.
The law enforcers also seized weapons from arrested students.
A search operation was also held at the varsity as a few students involved in the unrest managed to slip away and were reportedly hiding on the campus and in surroundings.
Boys hostels closed indefinitely
The university administration has ordered closure of all boys hostels at the varsity, for an indefinite period.
Students have been asked to immediately vacate the dormitories.
