On the southern edge of the island there is a very special and magical place, Prasonisi. It is substantially a rock island connected with the rest of the island with a narrow strip of sandy land of about one kilometre. The two beaches formed, due to the winds blowing in the area, join and become one and cover the land creating a picture of unique beauty, where visitors can reach either on foot or swimming depending on the weather and the sea level. It constitutes a paradise for those loving windsurfing, especially in July and August, when strong winds blow in the area. One can rent surfboards and surfing costumes. It is a place worth visiting even if not interested in surfing. All the rooms for rent in the area have their own tavern. There are also schools for windsurfing, fish taverns and coffee shops on the beach.
