Tetsuya Yamagami, the 41-year-old man who fatally shot Shinzo Abe, reportedly did not plan to attack the former Japan PM initially. Local media reports say Yamagami told police that he first wanted to attack the leader of a religious group. Yamagami claims this religious group was guilty of misleading and defrauding his mother.
Yamagami's focus later shifted to Shinzo Abe, who he felt had promoted this religious group across Japan. He has reportedly admitted to visiting several locations where Abe delivered campaign speeches ahead of the June 10 elections.
