STORYLINE:
Millions of people across Britain set out long tables, balloons and picnic fare for patriotic street parties and barbeques, gathering on Sunday for the final day of events to mark Queen Elizabeth II's 70 year reign.
At one event in central London, Chelsea Pensioner David Godwin who served in the military for 25 years paid tribute to the queen.
"I was baptised the same year Her Majesty came to the throne. And she's been in my life, been my life, all my life."
"She reflects the country and right now the country are buzzing and we're on a high," Godwin said.
His friend and fellow Chelsea Pensioner, Albert Weastell, who joined the Army in 1974 said the Platinum Jubilee had "lifted the whole country".
"It's like when Princess Diana died, we were all in mourning, but it brought the whole country together. And I think this is exactly the same," he said.
"I've met so many generations of people here today, young, old, who all have their own individual memories of her," said Kitty Vaughan, 31, who had come to enjoy the atmosphere.
