A pilot project to introduce extra CCTV cameras and monitoring in Government estates is being considered, and tenants who break the rules on anti-social behaviour will be evicted.
This was confirmed by the Chief Minister and the Minister for Housing in Parliament.
The declaration arose from questions posed by Opposition Member Damon Bossino on CCTV in estates.
Fabian Picardo spelt out in detail the extent of anti social behaviour in estates, which include people urinating in lifts, drawing graffiti of genitalia on recently painted walls, and wantonly discarding bin bags on freshly cleaned public highways.
He called for unity from the House in condemning such behaviour, and expressed sadness that we had come to the point where extra CCTV was having to be considered.
