Here's a quick description of my sound system for the garage workshop. It's a cannibalized system using parts from a Sony Bravia DVR-HDX466 home theatre system and a (VERY OLD) Dell Dimension 4300. I'm surprised the computer still works, but it's good enough to run internet radio and doesn't heat up at all, even with the plastic dust cover on.
The Sony Bravia system has AM/FM capability for regular radio, or I can use the 'audio input' setting on the Bravia to bring through the Internet radio from the computer. The speakers are excellent; clear and powerful enough to hear the music even at half volume throughout the whole garage.
The blue wiring is 14/2 stranded wire for low voltage signal. Over these distances, the heavier 14ga wire will carry the signal better than the thinner 16ga or 18ga wiring that might typically be used.
