He was one of only five people in the industry to be present in three major music halls of fame, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (1977), the Country Music Hall of Fame (1980) and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1992). Creator of over 1,000 songs and dozens of albums, Johnny Cash always wore black and that is the same color his Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is finished in. And you can have it.

Widely considered as one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century, his genre-spanning songs and sound embraced rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk and gospel. Cash was known for his deep bass-baritone voice, distinctive sound of his Tennessee Three backing band, a revelliousness coupled with an increasingly somber and humble demeanor, free prison concerts, and trademark look, which also earned him the nickname “The Man in Black.”

To all that and a lot more which could be written about the great artist, it was only natural Johnny Cash would be a man of great taste and sobriety in the matter of cars. However, the Rolls was in fact a gift and not a ride bought by himself.

In the period he hosted his own TV music variety show on ABC, the Television Network ordered and purchased the 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow long wheelbase Saloon in question they gifted Cash with.

Finished in black, the Johnny Cash Rolls-Royce comes with provenance including “build to order” specification paperwork, registration and published references to Johnny Cash’s ownership. The Rolls features extensive use of aluminum, including the hood and trunk lid. Key specifications include a twin-carbureted 6.75-liter V8 engine, independent front and rear suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. It shows 32,000 miles on the odometer and is presented in largely original condition.

The car was purchased from Johnny Cash in the mid-1980s and has been in private ownership ever since. The vehicle is being put on sale at the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction, to take place in Las Vegas September 25th through September 27th.
