Experts in Canada are casting doubt on the discovery of a new COVID-19 variant dubbed “Deltacron.”

Rather than a hybrid between the Delta and Omicron variants, scientists say, it was actually an error made by a sequencing machine.

But those same experts say a new variant spawned from two existing strains of a virus is not impossible. As Noor Ibrahim explains, it doesn’t necessarily mean a stronger virus either.
