Did you know the Ganges River is alive? In 2017, the Uttarakhand High Court in India declared the Ganges to be a living entity, giving it rights and the status of a ‘legal person’. Rivers all over the world suffer from pollution and overexploitation, and as a result, some of these rivers no longer reach the sea. The Colorado River has not reached the ocean since 1998! Most rivers are heavily polluted by plastic, heavy metals, pesticides, fertilizers, or antibiotics. Do you think rivers should have rights?
