This is one of the BMW Trinity of Oil Leaks: Valve Cover Gasket, Oil Pan Gakset, and Oil Filter Housing gasket. This is how we do it on a 2008 328xi E90. Tip - use only an original BMW part (PN in video) or a KIB gasket.
This typically needs to be done every 70/80K miles. While not as potentially damaging as the Oil Filter Housing gasket, you definitely don't want oil dripping off the oil pan.
