COON RAPIDS, Minn. -- The Coon Rapids Heart Safe Initiative debuted part of a new training video that has been put together over the past several months.
A clip from the video was shown during Tuesday night's City Council Meeting. The $7,000 training video was made possible due to the video production services of a Coon Rapids man as well as generous donations from many civic organizations and community groups.
The goal of the heart safe initiative, started more than a year ago, is to improve the survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest.
Officer Bryan Platz of the Coon Rapids Police Department says, "To put it in perspective, I have it on good authority that our program is by far the most popular in the state, the citizens have really rallied to this and to date we've trained over 3,000 people in this town on compression only CPR and how to use an AED."
Statistics show that 97% of all cardiac arrest victims die while waiting for help because the majority of bystanders refuse to take action.
The full seven minute training video will be finished next month.
