For more than four decades, astronomers have been searching for techno-signatures: Signals coming from distant alien civilizations. So far, scientists have found no convincing evidence for biology beyond Earth.
It is estimated that our galaxy the milky way contains about 400 billion stars. And each of those stars has at least one planet orbiting it. So most likely life on Earth is not unique. But we have to find evidence to infer the existence of alien life. The Fermi paradox remains unresolved but scientists are not giving up on the search for intelligent alien life.
For decades the famous Drake Equation has been used to estimate the number of technologically advanced species in the universe. Now Adam Frank from the University of Rochester has slightly different approach to the problem and suggest a modification of the Drake Equation. Instead of estimating how many civilizations are out there to communicate with today, they estimate how many civilizations have been out there since the beginning of the Universe.
