The Israeli parliament reconvened on Tuesday for its first session since the prime ministerial elections.
Outgoing Prime Minister, Ehud Barak, and senior Labour government figures, like Shimon Peres, were in attendance at the Knesset, but Israel's new leader was nowhere to be seen.
Prime Minister elect Ariel Sharon was elsewhere in the building, receiving the official election result from Judge Michael Heshin, head of the election committee.
Afterwards, he attended a meeting of his inner cabinet and close party members who proposed a toast to his health.
