This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. BIRAX [[ Ссылка ]] (the Britain Israel Research and Academic Exchange Partnership) is a £10 million initiative of the British Council and British Embassy in Israel that funds cutting-edge research using stem cell therapies to tackle some of the world’s most dreadful diseases.
Shimon Peres was born in Belarus in 1923, and immigrated to Israel at the age of 11. Growing up in the Labor-Zionist youth movement "HaNo'ar Ha'oved", Peres deeply believed in the creation of a Jewish State and has played a variety of roles both in its formation and development since Israel came into existence. Peres has served in countless government offices, including foreign minister, prime minister and defense minister. He has been a statesman in Israel for over 60 years, leading the country especially in the field of technological development. Some believe he is the father of the start-up nation.
Peres also created and established the Peres Center for Peace ([ Ссылка ]) – a non-government and non-partisan organization that brings Israel and its Arab neighbors closer by means of peacebuilding projects which focus on common social and economic interests, thereby fulfilling his vision of regional cooperation. Most recently, Peres served as Israel’s President.
Guy Lerer is the host of a late-night news commentary show, Tzinor Laylah, and a leader in bringing Israeli media attention to new technology and the start-up nation. Interviewing Peres, Guy focuses on leadership in the age of technology, highlighting not only Peres’ illustrious political career, but his ability to always be on the cutting-edge of technology.
