Five things I wish I’d known before I move to the UK
Here are some helpful tips on what to do before you move to the UK. These are the five areas I wish I’d known about before moving to England from the US.
1. There is a 12 month time allowance to move your personal goods before being charged VAT
2. There’s a 12 month grace period to drive on US license before needing to get a UK driving license
3. Visit your banks and financial institutions in the US before leaving and make sure you have a daily limit of withdrawal as high as you can for cash. Make sure you have a US address for taxes, drivers license, passport, Social Security, banking and financial institutions to keep in touch.
4. Be sure to download any apps you need to stay in touch like banking apps. If you want to use a Google+ number use your US number to obtain it or to port an existing US number to a new one. Also look into using a dual SIM phone to keep a US number and a UK number at the same time
5. Bring any supplements and medication‘s you need. Certain supplements are not sold in the UK such as melatonin and access to supplements is not as widely available as it is in the US. The same goes to for any US brands that you prefer stock up on them they’re much cheaper in the US with US dollars.
