Create home phone system based on Asterisk using Raspberry PI.
:: Programming skills required - some basic stuff will do.
:: Networking knowledge - meh... as long as you know your DHCP from your DNS it's going to be a blast.
:: Cost - moderate if you go for CISCO phones and switches but worth it.
:: Time to complete - designate your Sunday. It's going to be one of those Sunday projects you want to start early.
You need:
- Raspberry PI
- Good power supply. Over 1 Amp is good if using telnet. Making your RASPI looking hedgehog 2.1 Amp. Think power consumption. Legend has it 750 mAmp is OK but yeah. Use good power supply.
- USB mouse & keyboard
Optional
- CISCO PoE switch - This should be simple. CISCO PoE switch will power CISCO phone. Any other PoE switch and you are risking a no go. Yup. Been there done that in the end gone bought CISCO switch.
- CISCO phones. - I've tested 7940 & 7960. Work like a dream. As per other ones especially that one with a colour screen, I'm not sure. CISCO phones usually come with skiny protocol and need to be converted to SIP. This is where the fun begins and your programming skills come to play.
