Kent Wildlife Trust's Director of Conservation, shares his thoughts on the Government's introduction of the Retained EU Law Bill - a dangerous agenda which puts the protection of wildlife under threat.
The Government has launched an attack on nature - tearing up the most fundamental legal protections our remaining wildlife has. Over 570 laws surrounding habitat protection, water and air quality standards and species protection at risk of rewriting or ditching.
For Kent, this means 17 protected sites which hold unique and rare habitats, flora and fauna, may lose their protection and leave them vulnerable to development. We cannot idly stand by.
The state of nature in Kent is already diminishing - hundreds of species are under threat of extinction, our rivers and air are already heavily pollution and poisoned, and now nearly 2,000 hectares of wildlife habitat, which so many vulnerable species use as a haven, is at risk.
It's time for action and we are ready to #DefendNature. Are you?
