Guildford Grove Primary School in Surrey shows how it has improved literacy across the school, using techniques based on the Reading Recovery Programme. Seven years ago the school was struggling; today the staff feel the new, coordinated approach to literacy has been an important factor in turning the school around. A variety of group literacy interventions have been devised and implemented for KS2 pupils. On top of the standard literacy hour, an extra half hour of class time is devoted to reading and writing group work, and all staff members and parents of pupils involved in the programme are invited to watch the lessons. By carefully monitoring and assessing these interventions, the school has been able to tailor them precisely to the pupils' needs. Licensed to CPD College Ltd.
