#BREAKING: Tacoma Police Department Chief Avery Moore has been placed on paid administrative leave, a spokesperson for the city of Tacoma confirmed Thursday.
Moore was placed on paid administrative leave effective Wednesday, September 25. A TPD spokesperson said Deputy Chief Paul Junger has been named acting police chief.
The reason why Moore was placed on leave is currently unknown, however, a city spokesperson confirmed the reason is not criminal.
Moore was confirmed by the Tacoma City Council in December 2021 and began serving as police chief in January 2022. He previously worked for the Dallas Police Department as the Assistant Chief of Police for the Investigations Bureau.
