It supplies drinking water for Auckland & Hamilton, is the training ground of our Olympic rowers like Mahé Drysdale and has been the source of income for Mike Holmes for 35 years. He worries the upstream conversion of forestry blocks to dairy farms will bring more nutrients into the river, increasing the risk of algal blooms that choke the river, kill aquatic life & are expensive to clean up.
