Practice session for a presentation to the Philly Chapter NRHS. It covers my visits and interior photos of towers on the former Pennsylvania Railroad Main Line between ZOO and STATE taken between 2002 and 2019.
Until 2013 Amtrak operated that is arguable the last "paper dispatched" main lines in North America where dispatchers controlled the entire railroad through staffed interlocking towers. The towers covered in this presentation are:
ZOO (1930-Present)
OVERBROOK (1926-Present)
BRYN MAWR (1895-1994)
PAOLI (1896-Present)
THORN (1937-Present)
PARK (1938-2010)
CORK (1927-2013)
STATE (1937-2017)
The talk covers interlocking layout, operations, technology and fun stories. Includes US&S Model 14 and CTC type interlocking machines.
