The financial principles, processes and procedures underpinning green finance are similar to those of finance in general. But green finance also measures and reports the climate change mitigation and adaptation impacts of investments.
This is not an area that finance professionals typically have expertise in. Obtaining expert external review, verification and certification of the environmental impacts and outcomes of investments is important.
This ensures the integrity of the green finance market and helps avoid greenwashing –making false or misleading claims about environmental impacts, either deliberately or inadvertently.
