Did Science Confirm Speaking in Tongues?! (Real Pastor Answers)
This is one of the most incredible stories that confirms speaking in tongues happens today and has not ceased, as many preachers and false theologians would have you believe.
Recently we were live streaming our worship service and I was on the stage getting ready to transition into the sermon. The singer next to me began to sing in another language and I assumed it was Spanish. After the service was over, the singer came to me and said, “Pastor Mike, I’ve never sang in tongues before, that was a powerful experience!” I replied, “I assumed you were singing in Spanish so I encouraged you to continue on.” He said, “no, that was tongues!” Well, later that day he received a text message from a family member who had been watching the livestream broadcast and they said, “When did you learn Portuguese?” He said, “I have no idea what you’re talking about, I don’t know Portuguese.” To which they replied, “I know Portuguese and during the livestream you were singing a phrase over and over again.” He said, I was speaking in tongues, I didn’t know it was Portuguese. What was I saying. His family member responded, “I give all of my devotion to you.” over and over!
You simply cannot convince me that the gift of tongues, through the Holy Spirit has ceased! This is one of many many stories that I have.
So how can you speak in tongues? Well, there was a precious woman from my church who came to me recently and said, “Pastor Mike, I’ve been praying, fasting, giving more money in the offering, reading my Bible more, and attending Church every week—why haven’t I received the gift of tongues.” I politely responded, “If the Holy Spirit gave you the gift of tongues after all of that work it would be the rewards of the spirit, not the gifts of the Spirit.” You see, rewards are earned, but gifts are received. In my experience, strong willed people who devote their lives to helping others often have the hardest time receiving the gift of tongues. They come to God wanting to know how to be good enough, ready enough, and knowledgeable enough to speak in tongues. In a way, this makes sense because everything else we do is learned, achieved, and accomplished. But it is not so with the gifts of the Spirit. We can only receive, like children, from a good, good Father.

In a 2006 New York Times article it states:
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania took brain images of five women while they spoke in tongues and found that their frontal lobes — the thinking, willful part of the brain through which people control what they do — were relatively quiet, as were the language centers. The regions involved in maintaining self-consciousness were active. The women were not in blind trances, and it was unclear which region was driving the behavior.
“The amazing thing was how the images supported people’s interpretation of what was happening,” said Dr. Andrew B. Newberg, leader of the study team, which included Donna Morgan, Nancy Wintering and Mark Waldman. “The way they describe it, and what they believe, is that God is talking through them,” he said.
Ms. Morgan, a co-author of the study, was also a research subject. She is a born-again Christian who says she considers the ability to speak in tongues a gift. “You’re aware of your surroundings,” she said. “You’re not really out of control. But you have no control over what’s happening. You’re just flowing. You’re in a realm of peace and comfort, and it’s a fantastic feeling.”
Contrary to what may be a common perception, studies suggest that people who speak in tongues rarely suffer from mental problems. A recent study of nearly 1,000 evangelical Christians in England found that those who engaged in the practice were more emotionally stable than those who did not.
According to the scriptures, there are no formulas, no ritualistic prayers, no qualifications. You simply receive forgiveness through Jesus Christ. You are washed by the blood of the perfect sacrificial lamb, and the Holy Spirit fills you! Every time believers were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues they said YES and received it. So right now, say yes to Jesus. Ask Him to forgive you, ask Him to fill you with the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to give you the gift of tongues and He will!
