Cargill Tyson Equestrian proudly presents for sale on behalf of owner “Max” aka “Catani Lodge Desertstorm”. He is a 4yo 17hh approx Warmblood Gelding. He is by Daiquiri GF out of a Thoroughbred mare that his current owner/breeder evented to 2* level herself.
Max is an absolutely stunning buckskin warmblood with good conformation and a lovely, affectionate temperament. He is very eye-catching with his tall stature and striking golden colour and has high quality paces to back it up!
At only 4 years old he is still maturing physically, especially considering his height. He has a lot of filling out to do and muscle to build up and we can’t wait to see how he moves when he has another 12 months of work/maturing under his belt! He has 3 naturally expressive and ground covering paces with a huge overtrack in walk, a beautiful, regular swing to his trot and a comfortable, scopey canter that is reasonably balanced despite his massive stride length. He is very consistent in the rhythm and contact maintaining a steady outline in walk, trot and canter without feeling rigid. He is a very big, young horse who is still green and learning to push and use himself so he can get heavy in the hand at times. He needs a rider that can half-halt using their body to reinforce their rein aids and help him develop his own self-carriage. He can also still hang a little on the right rein, so needs a rider that can straighten him by bringing his shoulders over to the inside off the outside aids and push his inside hind leg under his body so he can become stronger behind and learn to lift his shoulders more which will be important skills for him to develop further given his size and talent.
We have found him to be very quiet and sensible to ride with a good attitude towards the work. He is confident for his age when approaching new environments and challenges. He is forward off the leg without being lazy and is a quick learner. He has just started jumping and has proven to be very brave and easy going. He maintains a good rhythm to and away from the fence, has jumped a variety of different fences up to 85cm with no hesitations. We could easily step him up to jump bigger now if he was older. He wants to be careful but does need time to develop the strength to be super sharp in his technique. We think he will be a good jumper in the future with great eventing prospects with a tall rider.
He has been out on the local roads and trails around our house and was the same as he is on the arena and a pleasure to ride out. He has mostly good ground manners but due to his large size and age he really needs a competent handler/someone experienced with young/big/green horses or someone who is going to work closely with a trainer/coach to further produce him. This is a serious and versatile performance horse prospect for the future who will be easy-going enough to hack out and have fun with also. Don’t miss the opportunity to secure an upcoming dressage and eventing superstar with outstanding colour, type, movement, breeding and temperament!
