9000 Years Old Chewing Gum
The oldest chewing gum, in the world is over 9,000 years old!
It was made from a sticky substance, called birch bark tar. People found it during an excavation in Sweden. Instead of chewing it for fun, ancient people used it for practical reasons. They used the gum like glue, to stick things together, or to fix tools and containers.
The gum is so old because, the birch bark tar can resist damage, and keep things sealed tight. Scientists have even found DNA, in the gum, giving them clues about ancient people, and their lives. It's amazing to see how clever and resourceful they were!
