A white hearse with hazard lights flashing left late former president FW De Klerk's home in Fresnaye on Thursday afternoon.
The only sound was the snapping of camera shutters as photographers captured the moments after the announcement that the last apartheid head of State had died as a result of pancreatic cancer.
A vehicle with a police guard dog in the back and another white SUV followed the hearse down the steep road.
There was little activity outside the neat ivy coloured double storey house with its wrought iron gates.
The street was temporarily blocked for the hearse to leave, but was otherwise quiet.
