As we discussed in the video on tuning with packers, you can make changes to your car's handling with a few simple adjustments. The easiest is to use packers with your factory bump stops (assuming they're still intact! They do wear fairly quickly in some cases). However, often the factory bump stops are created to make a car less 'fun to drive' at the limit, by inducing more front stiffness during corner vs. rear stiffness.
To combat this understeer (the car turns less than you want), you can 1. use a packer / bump stop spacer under the rear bump stop, 2. trim the front bump stop (but if possible, don't trim the 'nose', rather the wider 'heel' section), 3. change to a stiffer rear bump stops or 4. change to a softer/shorter front bump stop and stiffer rear.
On our FCM shop BMW 330i sedan, I trimmed the 'heel' section of the front bump stops and was able to induce more front suspension movement that allowed the rear bump stops to engage further and cause more oversteer (FUN!)
If you're putting on a set of replacement shocks / struts, that's an excellent time to examine the bump stops you have and most likely replace them. Our FCM bump stops are made from the highest quality MCU (micro-cellular polyurethane) available anywhere in the world. Our manufacturer supplies high end OEMs like Jaguar and BMW.
We have a variety of bump stop tuning options available for many vehicles. If you don't see your vehicles in our applications list, use the contact us form and we'll . If you can measure the diameter of the chromed shaft on your front and rear struts/shocks, that will help us determine what bump stop you need.
