Apart from hitchhiking (which is free), Megabus has been the cheapest transport to travel in and across the United Kingdom. When the company just started, they were offering £1 tickets between any destinations. Prices have gone up since then, but £9 between London and Manchester is still incredibly cheap compared to £90 by train. But their buses used to be absolutely horrible. No more! Such a pleasant surprise. :)
