This video presents our Archaeological Mission in the City of the God Kings: Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is one of the largest archaeological sites in the world and a must-visit for all tourists visiting Cambodia.
The Khmer Empire of Cambodia built the ancient mega-city of Angkor deep within the jungle. The temples of Angkor are architectural masterpieces laden with artistic treasures. For example, the bas-relief galleries that document Cambodian history and legends.
In this episode of "Quand la Science Eclair le Passe", Christophe Pottier, from the Ecole Francaise de L'Extreme Orient (EFEO), investigates the latest archaeological finds at an extremely significant historical site - Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
For this project, JEB conducted a topographic survey using a drone-mounted LiDAR device to investigate terrain and structures within the Angkor Temple Complex.
We surveyed well over 2000 hectares of land by LiDAR and generated extremely dense point clouds. The point clouds were processed, manually filtered, and cleaned to produce Digital Terrain and Surface Models (DTMs and DSMs).
The models and survey data were used to produce maps and other deliverables to support archaeological studies. This mission was performed with our partner, Khmer Geographic Institute.
