Out in the Red River Gorge for today’s adventure, visiting one of the most popular areas in the RRG, Auxier Ridge.
For directions, just search Auxier Ridge on Google Maps and it’ll get you to the trailhead.
If you opt to just do the standard Auxier Loop, you’ll use trail #204 (Auxier Ridge Trail) to trail #203 (Auxier Branch Trail) across to trail #201 (Double Arch Trail) and back to trailhead/parking; this loop will bring you in at 5.2 miles.
On the loop I share, we have a couple spurs off the main loop and come in right at 8 miles. There is some off trailing and scrambling in parts of the adventure today, per usual, just use your best judgment. If you don’t feel comfortable or safe at an area, don’t risk injury and just bypass that part.
The main features we’re visiting are Auxier Ridge (overlooks), Courthouse Rock/arch, Double Arch/The Observatory and last but definitely not least is Star Gap Arch.
