Of all the troops on the battlefield, few can bring as much devastating firepower to bear as the JTAC.

Nine nations came together at a military airbase at Solenzara on the island of Corsica for a French-led Joint Terminal Attack Controller exercise.

The role of the JTAC on the battlefield is to direct airpower, artillery and naval assets in support of ground units. The focus of exercise ‘Serpentex 2017’ was to train combat-ready JTACs and aircrews in realistic scenarios.

Participants conducted joint operations day and night at the tactical level, providing close air support from both rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft and air-to-ground shooting controlled by JTACs, as well as tactical airlift operations.
