This lecture will be presented in three sections:
• What is known about the Egyptian calendar
• Alignments to the Canopic, Julian, Alexandrian, and Zoroastrian calendars
o And Mayan.?.
• Implications of a pre-dynastic beginning to the 365-day calendar
We will investigate the Sothic date of July 20, 4243 BCE in the Julian calendar (Julian Day 171868), suggesting this as the starting point of the 365-day calendar.
Jim is the owner and operator of Mathemagician tutoring. He has his MA from Univ. of Montana and BA from CSU both in Applied Mathematics. He has published many articles in the Ostracon and presented his work to the Egyptian Study Society and the American Research Center in Egypt. He has traveled to Egypt many times and has worked on a dig in Giza. Jim is a past president of the Egyptian Study Society and is currently managing the Egyptian Study Society video library.
