Part 17, the final part of the Sonic Lost World playthrough shows the three DLC-exclusive zones you can download for free on the Nintendo e-shop.
(I'm not sure about Nightmare Zone though, as it was bundled with the "Deadly Six Edition" of the game).

Nightmare Zone, is a DLC Zone based on Sonic Team's other franchise NiGHTS Into Dreams.

Most of this stage is a mach speed section where you can collect the dream orbs (each worth 1 ring, the large hoops worth 10).

You will also face each of the Deadly Six again, but this time a much easier and nerfed version of them.
Usually you don't even need to hit any of them at all.

It is very easy to get a lot of rings and extra lives here, due to the large amount of dream orb trails near the end.

Yoshi's Island Zone is of cource based on Nintendo's Yoshi's Island.
Sonic will go around the 2D stage collecting Yoshi Eggs, kicking Shy Guys in the face (and into piranha plants).

Everything in here works pretty much like it does in Yoshi's Island, and to an extant, Mario games in general.

At the end, you get a few extra lives for every Yoshi you rescue, it'll add up significantly

The Legend of Zelda Zone is of course based on Nintendo's popular franchise The Legend of Zelda.

Here, Sonic can run around in wide open 3D spaces (and dressed like Link)
Which does work really well for him, which makes me wonder why the rest of the game wasn't like this zone.

you can collect rupees (which will convert to rescued animals at the end of the stage).
And you have a life bar now instead of rings, get hit too many times and you'll lose a life!

If you can find a hidden fairy, she will heal you back up to full health!

To get to the next part, you will need to lead a bomb into a rocky wall to clear the way.

The second section is an underground section where you avoid Gorons rolling towards you and bats.
You will need to lead the bomb to explode a certain section of the ground to continue.
There you can open the treasure chest and get an additional heart container!

At the end of the level, Sonic find the Triforce!
