Roasted Poha Chivda/Namkeen
Chivda or Poha Chivda is a quick and easy tea time snack made with poha (flattened rice/rice flakes), peanuts, and spices.
This is a Maharashtrian style quick and tasty dry snack made from thin poha (white thin rice flakes), peanuts, and spices. A healthy vegan snack that tastes too good and is everyone's favourite.
Ingredients:
✓500g Thin Rice Flakes/Poha (white)
✓½ Cup Peanuts
✓2 Cups Puffed Rice
✓½ Cup Roasted Chana Dal (Chickpeas)
✓12-15 Curry Leaves
✓3-4 Green Chilies(chopped)
✓3-4 Garlic Cloves (sliced lengthwise)
✓1 Tbsp. Fennel Seeds (slightly crushed)
✓1 Tbsp. Coriander Seeds (slightly crushed)
✓1 Tsp Cumin Powder
✓1 Tsp Turmeric Powder
✓1 Tsp Red Chili Powder
✓1 Tbsp. Dry Mango Powder (amchur powder)
✓1 Tbsp. Powdered Sugar
✓ Salt to taste (around 2 tsp)
Notes:
*After the poha chivda cools at room temperature, store in an air-tight container or box. It should last for a month.
*This is a mildly spiced sweet and savory chivda. You can alter the spices as per your liking.
*Let the chivda set for 1 hour after mixing and then check out for seasoning(salt,sugar and amchur powder) and adjust accordingly.
* You can also roast the flakes in thick bottom pan in two three batches on medium flame until crispy and white in color.
* You can also add dry fruits like raisins, cashewnuts and thin dry coconut slices in the tempering if you like.
*Oven temperature and time may slightly vary according to size and type of oven used. Keep checking in between while roasting.
