Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is an underdiagnosed condition, owing to the fact that some people with LQTS gene mutations have a normal QTc duration. It's estimated to affect 1 in 2,000 to 1 in 5,000 people. Long QT syndrome is not curable, however, medications can help prevent potentially fatal cardiac rhythm alterations. An ICD is a device that is placed under the skin of your chest and monitors your heartbeat continually. It has the ability to arrest a potentially fatal arrhythmia. The most common test used to identify long QT syndrome is an ECG.
