Hollywood A-lister Maggie Gyllenhaal, "Parasite" actor Song Kang-ho, French star Melanie Laurent and 2021 Golden Globe nominee Tahar Rahim are among the members of the 74th Cannes Film Festival jury, the organizers announced Thursday (24 JUNE 2021).
Director Mati Diop, filmmaker Jessica Hausner, iconic singer-songwriter Mylene Farmer and filmmaker Kleber Mendonca Filho round out the panel presided over by Spike Lee that will consider the 24 films in competition for the festival's top prize, the Palme d'Or.
Several on this year's jury have themselves walked the Cannes red carpet in recent years, for in-competition films.
Song Kang-ho joined "Parasite" director Bong Joon-ho to celebrate the film's Palme d'Or win in 2019. The same year, Mati Diop won the festival's Grand Prize for her debut feature "Atlantics" Kleber Mendonca Filho, along with his directing partner Juliano Dornelles, won the Jury Prize for "Bacurau;" and Jessica Hausner directed Emily Beecham in "Little Joe", to that year's best actress award.
"The Mauritanian" star Rahim gave his breakthrough performance in drama "A Prophet," winner of the 2009 Cannes Jury Prize.
