Water and wastewater treatment: Biochemical oxygen demand or BOD is a term widely used in water and wastewater treatment mainly sewage treatment plant. BOD or biochemical oxygen demand is water quality parameter in water and wastewater treatment. Biochemical oxygen demand or BOD is the oxygen demand by microorganism for bio-degradation of organic waste from wastewater. BOD or biochemical oxygen demand can estimate in 5 days test. Typical Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of domestic wastewater occurs in the range of 350-750 ppm. Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of drinking water should be nil. Industrial waste contains very high BOD Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in effluent treatment plant. BOD can be remove in STP based in Activated sludge process, MBBR, MBR, FBR, RBC, UASB etc.
