This has happened on a number of occasions and sometimes a temporary council is appointed to see him through the initial appearance process."

STORYLINE:
Lawyers for Slobodan Milosevic are in The Hague to prepare the former Yugoslav president's defence at the U-N war crimes tribunal.
Defence lawyers Zdenko Tomanovic and Dragan Krgovic caught a scheduled commercial flight from Belgrade to Amsterdam on Monday morning.
As he checked in, Tomanovic said he expected to see Milosevic at noon for a visit that would last up to five hours.
Monday's meeting is the first between Milosevic and his lawyers, who are believed to have been specially chosen by his wife, Mirjana Markovic.
The lawyers took with them a blue suitcase packed with Milosevic's belongings, believed to be books, clothes and money he had requested from his Dutch prison cell.
They spent much of the flight consulting legal documents.
On arrival at Amsterdam's Schipol airport the legal team said they would make a statement to the media after meeting Milosevic.
The lawyers then had to seek permission from the war crimes tribunal in the Hague to visit Milosevic in prison.
Having been granted permission, they arrived at the prison holding Milosevic on Monday afternoon to plan with their client his historic court appearance.
