About the piece: This piece is called "Sizilianisch" because it is composed in the Baroque style of a Siciliano, a dance-like piece in the typical measure of 6/8 with typical rhythms which you can find in other Siciliano pieces by e.g. Bach as well.
Robert Schumann actually wanted to compose some small pieces to give it to her daughter Marie as a birthday present. But soon the idea came up to write an album of at the end more than 40 piano pieces. The idea of a "Children's Album" inspired many composers later on like Tchaikovsky, Khachaturian or Shostakovich to write their own album.
