About the award category "Reimagine Civic Engagement"
Around the world, citizens’ trust in government, administration, and public institutions is declining, while populism and nationalism are on the rise. Concurrently, there is a lack of transparency and accountability among decision-makers and insufficient opportunities for citizens and civil society to actively participate in important decisions affecting their lives. The selected projects for this catergory directly support shifting power towards citizens, enabling them to engage in the civic space and participate in decision-making that impacts their communities.
In 2024 the following projects were represented in this category: Urban Youth Councils (by SM Shaikat), Xhuma Africa Association (by Nduku Louis Tebi), Etmaa'en. اطمان (by Saloua Jaghar), National Civic Education Network (by João Tavares), Strengthening and Sustaining Fiscal Transparency and Accountability (by Annetta Mahoney).
All projects were presented at the Global Solutions Summit 2024 in Berlin.
